I often use a similar construct, like so:

use constant DELIM => "\t"; my $fh = IO::File->new(">$filename") || die $!; print $fh join(DELIM, 'Col 1', 'Col 2', 'Col 3', ), $/; # And so forth

Yes, I should use something like Text::xSV, but it currently doesn't do output.
