According to to strict or not to strict, you're not alone, but it seems that the majority of the Monastery is against your view. On a personal note, I started using strict and warnings long before joining the Monastery, and I haven't yet found a reason to do differently. It is a mantra and it looks like that, but there are a few very good reasons for keeping chanting it. Strict and warnings are good help when you write programs, and they are invaluable when you need to find a bug.
