    I prefer the P38 to the P39:
    Don't give me a P39,
With an engine that's mounted behind.
    It will tumble and roll,
And dig a big a hole.
    Don't give me a P39.

the can opener on my keychain. Until I reach in my pocket for my keys, that is.

I use it to open my cans of ravioli at work, because no matter where I work, the can opener in the break room is always filthy. The P38 is easy to clean and if I break it, it's 79 cents for a new one.

Hey, I've been looking around for one of these. Where'd you get yours? Military Surplus?

      -----------------------
      You are what you think.

There's an Army Surplus by my house that I've been going to since I was young. It used to be one of my favorite places to go, and I bought tons of stuff from there, but now I only go back when I need a jacket or a can opener.

Maybe nostalgia is clouding my childhood memories, but has the Army Surplus turned into kind of a Militia Hut the past ten years or so? It seems like it used to be full of useful stuff that really looked like it could endure military service. Now it's all throwing stars, switchblades, and laser pointers.

I had to toss a coin on this one because I could have gone with the airplane or the can opener. Ended up voting for the can opener.

When I was in the military I ended up with several SNCCs (Standard Navy Coffee Cups) full of the darn things (can openers) and left them behind except for a handful that I brought home. Now I wish I had just one of those SNCCs full as they were handy and in the 20+ years since I left Uncle Sam's Canoe Club I have lost all the ones I brought home due to attrition.

As to the airplane: just a little before my time so I fully appreciated it. Still it was one of the great aircraft.

    In the UK, a P38 is an income tax form - though it's actually a P38A or a P38(S).

... the can opener. I was torn between it and the pistol.

In my wallet right now is the first one I found in a C Ration during USAF basic training, 24 years ago. The food sucked, and the smokes were stale, leaving the can opener was the most memorable part of the meal.

What the bloody hell is a P38?

It wasn't "Jackal" the first time you said it, why the hell would it be one the next 10 times! ...GOD!!
Lmao, Family Guy is by all time my most favorite American Cartoon. I've yet to find any show as funny, 'toon or otherwise. I just wish they hadn't cancelled it for it's political incorrectness. Quoth Stewie, "Ahh, damn you all!"

Because of my job, a.k.a the army, I had to go with the good old reliable P-38 Army Can Opener.

    Well, P38 is a giant maritime petroleum platform of PetroBras. Actually they have, p38, p39 , p40, p41, p...

PetroBras? Pardon my ignorance, but, is that some kind of combustable hydrocarbon undergarment? And if so, wouldn't that be somewhat dangerous when it gets hot and heavy, and the sparks start to fly?
PetroBras is a Petroleum company in Brazil. Actually one of the biggest in the world, and the biggest in maritime exploration.

Why wasn't there an option for "I had no idea that any of the above were associated with P38?".

    Seriously!

Dang, off by one letter! I was hoping to vote for The Alludium Q38 Space Modulator.

And remember, if he succeeds, so what.
    - Chick McGee

      Howdy!

...well, I saw this explanation on alt.callahans...

Keith sits himself down at the bar. "Hey Mike, you hear that they heard from Beagle 2 a while back"

Mike raises a brow disbeleivingly "Didn't hear anything on the news..."

"Well, they're actually trying to keep it quiet. There's a lot of problems with the message, or rather, message fragment that they receaved.."

Mike pours a glass of bushmills and sets it down.

"First, it was very faint, and only a fragment of the full message. But that's the least of the problems. Either there's some odd parallel evolution going on, or interplanitary transport of lifeforms, or, for the tinfoil hat crowd, the Russians have gotten there and established themselves, or ultimate proof that history repeats itself."

Mike chewed on his cigar. "What was the message?"

Keith chuckled and sipped his drink. "Well... what they got was 'Curse you red bear on...' before the message faded out again...

...and that was followed by the obligatory barrage of peanuts... the thread in google

      yours,
      Michael
I'm young, stupid, etc, can anyone explain the punch line?

Gives that old fashioned back woods heat, the sensation of not escaping feeling. And if your lucky you may be able to hear the french woman talking in the distance as the almost plastic pellets creek. As the heat increases, you slowly turn into a wolf.

I was surfing and looking at the history of the P-38 can opener when I located a great site with a detailed history and technical section on the P38 can opener, www.dogtagsrus.com - from the main page select history and information. Be prepared the information is quite detailed and technical.

Its a can opener that they wont let in court with. I forgot I had mine on my key chain and had to take it back to my truck. I guess its considered a dangerous weapon.
