I've been a classroom teacher, Windows administrator, Unix administrator, Java developer, Oracle DBA, and Backup administrator. Perl and Scheme are my favourite languages for playing with ideas, automating tasks, and generally make my life easier.
I worked one place where it was mandated "Thou shalt use Perl." I wasn't a big fan at first: I knew Perl, but my Perl was honestly rough and kludgy. Working there forced me to learn Perl for real; and I still send my old bosses snippets of code I think are particularly good. I have yet to impress them.
I recently moved (back) to the NorthWest after living 10 years in the Southeast. It's been fun to get re-acquainted with cold and damp after the never-ending Southern heat.
