There are some amazing similarities between the two things I do most of in my life.

Perl
Jeep

If you have ever owned a Jeep Wrangler you know what I'm talking about. Some similarities include:

Customization
Super cool after market stuff to add on
Already comes with a powerfull engine
Can take a major beating and come out fine
You can go where most can't

The list could go on...

In short, I have two great utilities in my life: my Jeep Wranger and Perl.

Both let you customize them when you first get them.

Both let you add as much cool stuff to them as you like.

Both let you push the boundaries of their respective niche's.

Both will let you do it the hard way if you like, and take the easy route too.

Both have one of the most powerful engines ( or core :) around.

Both have their small limitations: you aren't going to race your Jeep just like you aren't going to write hardware drivers in Perl.

Final note: Go get yourself a Jeep, you'll feel like you're driving Perl!

Too much city driving and their transmissions both stop working... (oh wait, that was just my beloved Jeepster =) Great, now I'm going to be all maudlin and pine for my old car whenever I write perl... The challenge before us, what other languages and cars match up? In the great Perl tradition of not reinventing the wheel... Of course, it's not really all that funny or insightful. I much prefer this classic. However, of all the numerous version of it, I can't find a single Perl mention. ++ to the best way to shoot yourself in the foot in Perl. -dlc	[reply]

That's a tough one. Maybe perl is a souped-up DeLorean, with your crazy uncle "Doc" CPAN always ready to add a new part or addition (flux capacitor, HTML::Mason, whatever). Plus, it flies while the rest use the ground. :)	[reply]

The similarity that is from my personal experience I buried my jeep in mud and it eventually made it through it. If my Jeep breaks down, I can fix it with a little knowledge and whatever tools I have on hand. Ditto Perl. When accesorizing the Jeep, I tend to choose functionality over form. Ditto Perl.
