The moral of the story is that the Perl world could learn something from the Java world. Java, just like Perl, is a moving target. Java 1.1 isn't the same language/environment as Java 1.4, just like Perl 5.0 is quite different from Perl 5.6. Hence, it's not uncommon for an application written in Java, to be distributed with whatever Java environment it needs. Problem solved.
