This is the official press release launched this week here in Brazil. I've just added the "monk-names", so you can see who's who. :)

The International Perl Developers Meeting - YAPC::Brasil::2005 (Yet Another Perl Conference) will take place during the 6th Free Software International Forum, that will take place from june 1st to june 4th at PUCRS.

This is the first brazilian meeting supported by the Perl Foundation, entity based on the United States of America that supports the use and development of the language worldwide.

The meeting will be hosted by Porto Alegre Perl Mongers, directed by Er Galvão Abbott (DaWolf) and organized by Brasil Perl Mongers, represented by Flávio S. Glock (fglock) and Marco Lima (mago). One of the biggest attractions of the meeting will be the presence of Randal L. Schwartz (merlyn), one of the most influent personalities of the language worldwide and co-author of many Perl books, specially the famous Camel Book. Schwartz will give two lectures during the meeting.

Some YAPC activities will be free, while others, that will take place in the Forum will be available only for those who subscribed for it.

The Perl programming language allows the creation of programs that run on UNIX, Windows, Macintosh, among other Operating Systems. The language has many efficient text handling functions, feature that made it popular for Web programming, in addition to be heavily used on administrative tasks in UNIX systems, where the language was born and raised.

O Encontro Internacional de Desenvolvedores Perl - YAPC::Brasil::2005 (Yet Another Perl Conference, ou seja, Mais Uma Conferência Sobre Perl) será realizado durante o 6º Fórum Internacional de Software Livre, que acontece de 1º a 4 de junho de 2005 na PUCRS.

Este é o primeiro encontro de desenvolvedores Perl no Brasil que é oficialmente homologado pela Perl Foundation, entidade sediada nos Estados Unidos que apóia o uso e o desenvolvimento da linguagem em nível mundial.

O encontro terá como anfitrião o grupo Porto Alegre Perl Mongers, administrado por Er Galvão Abbott (DaWolf), e organização do Brasil Perl Mongers, representado por Flávio S. Glock (fglock) e Marco Lima (mago). Um dos grandes atrativos da conferência é a presença de Randal L. Schwartz (merlyn), uma das personalidades mais influentes da linguagem no mundo e autor de diversos livros, entre eles o famoso Camel Book. Schwartz fará duas palestras durante o encontro.

Algumas atividades do YAPC serão gratuitas, enquanto outras ocorrerão dentro da programação do Fórum e estarão disponíveis apenas para os inscritos no mesmo.

A linguagem de programação Perl permite a criação de programas em ambientes UNIX, Windows, Macintosh e outros sistemas operacionais. A linguagem possui funções muito eficientes para manipulação de textos, o que a torna popular para programação Web, além de ser muito utilizada em tarefas administrativas de sistemas UNIX, onde a linguagem nasceu e cresceu.
