Why should I need to learn Unicode programming in Perl.
where it can be used very effectively.

Why should I need to learn Unicode programming in Perl. Its a standard way of using non-ASCII characters, which is very useful if (for instance) you want to talk about a café, or use Japanese. Is that used in Network programming in perl Is that used in Webprogramming in perl Yes.	[reply]

If your using any programming that involves other languages, Unicode is the future. If you don't learn it, or of it, you could make a mistake such as:... thinking that each character, is one byte, which is isn't. By assumming each character is one byte, rather than using a unicode character library you make that code non-portable. Unicode characters can be upto 6 bytes (IIRC). Why should I need to learn Unicode programming in Perl. Have a read of The Absolute Minimum Every Software Developer Absolutely, Positively Must Know About Unicode and Character Sets (No Excuses!) . If you then decide that you want to learn how to use unicode in Perl take a look at UTF-8 and Perl (In Five Minutes) and Why Perl loves utf-8.	[reply]
