Hi msk_0984,

Welcome to the Monastery! Make yourself at home.

In addition to this site's resources and those at, I also recommend buying or borrowing from your local library Learning Perl, which is a solid introduction to the language and is affectionately referred to as "the Llama" by members of the community because of the animal depicted on its cover. I found it to be very helpful when I began learning the language and I think that many others here would agree.

I wish you every success with your new job and learning Perl.
