jesuashok has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

dear monks,

I am going to deliver a speech on importance of perl modules on July,3rd. I would like to select a nice Quote on Perl modules, which has to express, really the power of perl modules.

Monks, please shower your Quotes about perl modules. The Quote should cover the Broader picture of perl modules, not specific to a single perl module.

For example, If any one starts there speech on 'C' language they used to say C is a Sea. Sameway for perl, some people used to say, perl is really Pearl

Sameway, I need to select a nice quote on Perl modules. Please suggest your Quotes.

Advancced thanks for all of your inputs.

The whole intent of Perl 5's module system was to encourage the growth of Perl culture rather than the Perl core. -- Larry Wall in <199705101952.MAA00756@wall.org>

Many more Larry quotes available from the CPAN

CPAN is my programming language of choice; the rest is just syntax. - Autrijus Tang, Perl 6 is Here Today (http://pugscode.org/talks/apw/start.html)

    Here's an 'original':

Pearls are not monolithic. The introduction of a seed particle into a bivalve initiates the formation of a pearl. The seed itself is a common and unattractive material. Thousands of thin layers slowly mineralize around the seed, collectively forming a gemstone. So too with Perl, itself a mis-shapen and almost accidentally formed nucleus around which the glittering corpus of CPAN has formed.

I swear I just came up with that, but probably someone else had that thought before. Probably Larry himself. I'm not trying to steal any ideas. Please let me know when you find out who. Use their phrasing, and quote them instead. I'm a lowly, unworthy monk, as I sling prose much better than code.
