Considering some recent questionable nodes being promoted to the frontpage, perhaps this should not be possible until a node has a minimum positive reputation, at least greater than NORM.

Another strategy would be to consider and vote on nodes nominated for this coveted position.

    I'm definitely for some kind of restriction here, or perhaps another step. Is it that one vote by one monk is sufficient to frontpage a node? (damn, I'm verbing). If so, maybe they could be worked into the "consideration" system (i.e. add 'front page' as another option), thus making them take more votes to get them on the front page?

    Don't how much of a consideration this is, but how much rotation would we get on the frontpage if we restriceted the posts that could be frontpaged? It's nice to log in every day and get a different smathering of posts instantly to start mulling over before going into newest nodes and delving a little deeper.

    The rotation we have now isn't always that speedy in itself, so to restrict that more, even though it would mean better quality posts on the front page (which probably has stock with new members who could look at the front page as a calling card for what type of place this is) i'm not certain that i'm all for slowing that rotation if it is considerable.

    If this restriction wouldn't change that rotation much at all, then it seems a very good idea. Either way, ++ for a good suggestion =)

    Here are a couple of implementation ideas; perhaps the:

    1. The Front Page builder should see if a node's been considered. If so, it ignores the node.

    2. Approval nodelet processor should see if the node has been considered and, if so, clear it's Front Page selection.

      Today:

      1. Re-writing CGI.pm was an obvious troll. (has since been removed)
      2. Why was indirect object syntax inferred here?o high-level user using pre tags!

      Some others i might mention are more personal preference, just not anything i'd check the frontpage box for. Since a frontpage slot almost guarantees a high rep, i think they should somehow earn the spot. Requiring a node to be > $NORM (above average quality) should be the bare minimum IMHO.

      Update: To answer LD2's question more clearly, the suggested minimum reputation would be greater than $NORM, which is a perlmonks variable that's calculated daily and reflects the average reputation of all nodes created during the past week. The current value of $NORM is 8.0911 (it's usually between 6 and 9) and can be found in Voting/Experience System.

      /me appreciates the irony of this parent node's immediate promotion to the frontpage =)

      To number numbers, Re-writing CGI.pm for one. And others whose content is not questionable, but are just victims of the nasty "format your code with <pre>" meme that seems to have acquired such a grip lately =)

    That's an interesting idea, but what would be the min. reputation? Another idea is to not allow nodes that aren't formatted correctly to ever reach the frontpage(until the PM or whoever posts it correctly).
