I have not ever used BDE, but I suspect the answer is ODBC.

A Super Search for 'ODBC' should turn up some useful discussions about using ODBC in general. I don't remember seeing anything about BDE, so you may need to resort to outside web searches to find out if anybody has documented use of BDE with ODBC, if there is nothing in the BDE documentation/FAQs.
