Saints in our Book reaches 500 members!

It's fun to watch the Saints in our Book List, to see how frequently it grows, and keep track of which new members have joined.

Whenever another Perlmonk reaches the list, I try to send them a private message, giving them a "pat on the back", with some words of encouragement.  I've gotten lots of nice feedback, and made some new "cyberfriends" in the process.

It seemed like an unusually long time that the list was fixed at 498 members.  Finally, just the other day, almut became a "Saint" (really "Curate") to bring the total to 499.

And tonight, been42 has reached the List, bringing the total to an amazing 500 members.  A remarkable milestone!

You never did that for me! *sobs* :P

Congrats been42. Now you don't have to clean the stables anymore. Just the bathrooms!

Whenever another Perlmonk reaches the list, I try to send them a private message, giving them a "pat on the back", with some words of encouragement.

And let me say that I really appreciated that. I've kept those messages in my archive along with other kind words I like to read over and over.

And now we're up to 501. (Drat! I was just a little too late to be the 500th.)

Did you send a message to NodeReaper when he recently passed the mark? (and did he reply?)

      Hi hawtin,

      Yes, I did!

It was one of the spate of Reaped: cheap viagra nodes on May 12, 2007 which pushed the Undead One onto the List.  The text of our conversation is currently on my homepage; I'll reproduce it here for posterity:

A brush with (im)mortality, 070513: [liverpole]: Hey NodeReaper ... congratulations on making the Saints i +n Our Book list. You've got more writeups than anyone else! :- +) [liverpole]: And to think it was cheap viagra that helped you get ther +e ... ;-) [NodeReaper] bows gravely.

Update:  This was a public conversation in the Chatterbox, unlike my correspondences with other monks who have reached Sainthood.  I should have made that more clear.

Considered by NodeReaper: received no private message; reap these lies
      Unconsidered by Arunbear: enough keep votes {Keep: 18, Edit: 0, Reap: 4}

Another keep vote from me; I distinctly recall seeing this in the CB. (Sorry, BoneHead. Short-term memory is the first to go, you realize...)

        HTH,

        planetscape

Yeah, I saw it on the public chat, very touching ;-)

And I voted for "keep" in the node concideration NodeReaper raised against your node on the basis that you might have given the impression you sent him a private message :-D

You know, that means nothing anymore. Back in my day, a (wo)?man had to WORK to get that 3000 experience. Why, you could slave away all day on a regular expression, and get only a nickel's worth of XP! And that nickel could have bought you a house! These days, kids don't understand that, with their fax machines and hula hoops and iPods. Meh! Take me back to the good o'l days of 2005!

Wow, thanks everybody! Not just for the congratulations, but for all of the help that you've all given me over the past several years.
