Disclaimer: I work there. Then again, that means you know who to complain to if you don't like the Perl interface, or if you have patches or suggestions...

As I discovered a few months ago, Google have completely terminated any access to the search data through a standard API. If you want to do any data mining with Google, you'll need to web scrape all the way :(

But as suggested to me (and above), Yahoo! might be a better choice :)
