You are printing the file handle reference. It is coming from this line:
print $fh;
In order to have perl treat $fh as a file handle, you need to use one of the following:
print {$fh} $_; print $fh $_;

[1nickt]: ambrus I agree. I suspect one's eyes are always trying to adjust across the boundary between very bright and very dark ... like a camera's autofocus struggling to choose the target.
