The last attempt for Perl certification that I know of fizzled about about a year ago. I tried to get a BOF (Birds of a Feather meeting) going at Euro::YAPC 2009 conference, but absolutly no one was interested. Perl is driven by the community, and the community generally either don't want a certification program or (most likely) feel they have better things to do. It hardly ever comes up in conversation amoung Perl people. I sometimes move (slither?) in Python circles, and the situation is the same there.
