Yes, these things are always quite tricky to predict. So many things may influence it: buffer-size, cache-effects, other processes stealing the disk-controller from your script or pushing your script out to disk, ... Trial & Error is probably the only way to go. CountZero A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout.
