Perl 6 Opinions

Monks,

I realize that some people have mixed feelings about Perl 6. Some may like it, others may hate it. I really don't know what to think about it because I don't know enough. I want to know what you Monks think.

Thanks in Advance

Perl 6 is overall a better language than Perl 5.

Perl 5 has, for the foreseeable future, a better ecosystem to allow me to do practical things.

According to a friend of mine, Perl 6 has tons of bugs that nobody has fixed.

So do most projects. So does my DNA. That mostly doesn't stop me from doing useful things.

I have mixed feelings about Perl 6. Some days I like it, other days I hate it. I really don't know what to think about it because I don't know enough. I want to know what I will think someday. :-)

Now I know what to get you for Christmas!

If nothing happen they will release 5.100 after 5.99.11 at spring 2054.

By that time we'll be using 2052-07-16 as version nombers

You can find long discussions for every aspect in the archives, like this one.

And IMHO most monks didn't change their personal opinion in the meantime!

    Cheers Rolf

I know it’s coming, and I know it will be good when it does come.   But designing a production computer language, and then perfecting its implementation to the level to which it must be perfected, is a beastly amount of grueling and painstaking work.

Kudos to the many contributors here to that effort.

I realize that some people have mixed feelings about broccoli. Some may like it, others may hate it. I really don't know what to think about it because I don't know enough. I want to know what you, perl.j, think.

I, as YOU OBVIOUSLY SAW, do not know much (if anything) about Perl 6. All I ask of you is your opinion.

The point being your question was soliciting opinion without any technical context or question of fact or use. When you change the noun it becomes obvious how vague it is. The opinions of strangers on matters of taste are essentially irrelevant. What is your opinion? Perl 6 is out there for you to try.

FTR, I’ve enjoyed playing with Perl 6 but haven’t yet written anything “in production,” even for personal projects. Like I said, that should not really matter to you.
