Barcodes are not plaintext
but they can be. im sure that i can send a plaintext as a chain of command to the printer. and the printer makes out of it a barcode. but im not sure how this commandline should look like.

4sure => havent thought about the background ink saving feature. sounds good to me ;-) probably im able to disable it :-D

    You are talking about postscript. Perhaps you can create a Postscript page that has the drawing commands to have the barcode, and send it to your printer?
