Re: Fix the Perl News header by CountZero (Chancellor) on Mar 24, 2012 at 11:08 UTC |
It says "For the latest news on what's happening in the Perl world", it doesn't say "Best places to broadcast Perl News".But you are right for the "Use.Perl" site. That cannot be called "latest news" by any stretch of the imagination. The other sites are still good.

Right below what I quoted, it says If you have a Perl news item, please consider posting it on one of the above sites.
I had never heard of perlisalive.com, didn't see anything newsworthy on the O'Reilly site, and can name several better places where I can passively consume "the latest news on what's happening in the Perl world." Clearly -- based on the presence of use.perl.org -- the list isn't up-to-date for either producing or consuming Perl news.

Thanks for raising this point. I've updated the links to be more relevant. I think that such links are useful to newcomers or those who have been away for a long time, so are worth keeping. | [reply] |

Thanks for taking the time to update it. It might be worth adding a link to a stable perl5-porters archive (not Google Groups -- God knows what will happen to that), but your list is good: short and up-to-date.

I updated it a little more. I took out the language that says "post news on one of those sites"; instead, it says post here. :-)
Also - I hope you don't mind, Arunbear, but I took out the Enlightened Perl Ironman link. That's not really news; it's even less so than a blog, which is what most of the other sites are.

I don't understand why you'd remove Perlbuzz. While Perlbuzz is indeed "pretty much Andy Lester's playground", that doesn't mean it's not a good source of Perl news.

It's not. It's mostly a hand-created (and therefore highly biased) weekly blog aggregator, with a bit of editorial fluff.

I removed Perlbuzz simply because we've got a link to Perlsphere, which includes all updates from Perlbuzz plus much more.
