While living in the dorms in my first year at college, my entire room was decorated in black and white, with the exception of the multiple strands of red lights (they were actually "Valentine's day lights"). It was really red light your eyes don't focus as quickly as you move, which makes people dizzy and disoriented after a while. Seeing as how everyone in the dorms was continually, umm...dizzy and disoriented, anyway, I didn't realize this until I tried to put them up in my apartment a year later :)

Moral of the story: I don't like Christmas lights!
