Just use a modern code-editor (such as Komodo) which can tabify or untabify your code at will and does a great job of aligning your opening and closing brackets in such a way that you get very neatly looking code irrespective of using tabs or spaces. To me this discussion lokoslooks to be of the "what is the sex of an angel" kind.

<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
