Hi Monks,
I've searched PM, but I can't see a good spirited discussion of Linux databases of the type that occur for IDE's from time to time.
So here it is:
I expect a good Linux or Cross-Platform database to:
- Be free, but not necessarily open source
- Have good (preferably free) graphical support tools available
-
- Have an active support community and be popular on PM
- Support SQL92
-
- Be ultra-reliable
- Have good, easy to set-up and use, Perl-ready connection protocols (eg DBD::something)
- <update>Good, clear error messages (thanks Moritz)</update>
- I guess I've missed a lot, so what do you expect from a database?
- What is your favourite Linux or cross-platform database?
Have a good day
Regards
Steve

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
