Well ... at least the bug has now been reported, so someone might be able to fix it.

It's conceivable that it's a MakeMaker bug, so you might find success by upgrading/downgrading your ExtUtils::MakeMaker installation. (No guarantees, of course :-)

I know that there's one PDL porter in particular who regularly checks the rt.cpan.org bug reports - so please update your bug report to save him unnecessary grief.
