BAJA has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi all,

Well, first the system where I'm trying to build the latest stable version of Perl:

Windows XP SP3

2GB RAM

Xeon Processor

Visual Studio 2010( Visual C++ 2010)

I left MakeFile as default only changing CCTYPE to the corresponding value.

Then I did nmake without any problem. But after I did nmake test, I get this:

Test Summary Report ------------------- porting/buildtoc.t (Wstat +: 0 Tests: 8 Failed: 1) Failed test: 4 Files=2092, Tests=464055, 1544 wallclock secs (59.63 usr + 9.39 sys = + 69.02 CPU) Result: FAIL NMAKE: fatal error u1077: '..\perl.exe' : return code '0x1' Stop

I also found where it fails when testing

porting/buildtoc.t ................................................ Failed 1/8 subtests

I don't have any idea of what's going on. I build 5.12 before without any problems the only thing is that I used Visual C++ 2008

I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

    Which version of perl?

FWIW, porting/buildtoc.t failed for me the last few times, it is not in any way shape or form critical or required for proper operation of perl

    Don't worry about it

Sorry about forgetting the Perl version, it is 5.14.2

how do you figured out what errors o fails?

This would be really helpful for future reference.

      Thanks
