Unix programmer, basketball fan, denture wearer. (By jove, I'm a handsome brute!)

All seriousness aside, I am a longtime Unix programmer who has a degree in, of all things, astrophysics. (It's basically one of those "smart enough to do it yet stupid enough to try it" things.) Fortunately, I wised up in time. I have useful experience in C(\+\+)?, Perl, Java, SQL (Oracle/SQL Server/Informix/Ingres/MySQL/etc), shell, etc etc etc. I am absolutely smitten with Apple's OS X; it takes me back to those long-ago days at NASA when I had a NeXT sitting on my desk.

Currently I am a contractor for a well-known health/medical organization which shall remain nameless. Until recently I worked for a a few companies that, slowly but surely, I dragged them kicking and screaming into the 1990s by teaching them Perl, in much the same way that England and the Dutch built empires: we set out to make money, not dominate. (Hey, whatever works.) In the past, I've worked in telecom, manufacturing, research, publishing, automotive, and even agribusiness, doing full-cycle application development, application support, API programming, UI programming, DB development, and even customer support. But I really want to direct.

In my spare time, excuse me, "copious free time" (guild rules and all that), I am married to a wonderful woman who is WAY out of my league and trying my best (such as it is) to help raise two stepsons. I also spend much of the year waiting for NFL season and follwing the Indy Racing League. We are Colts season ticket holders who know that all things New England are utterly and absolutely EVIL!!!! ahem Excuse me. Might I just say that the thrill of seeing a Superbowl come to town, and the trials and tribulations before and since, is something that let me build up a lot of memories with my father, my stepsons, and She Who Must Be Obeyed? True, it's a bit silly, but so much of life is.

BTW, you may notice that I don't necessarily have a lot of write-ups. That's okay; I learned long ago that if you have nothing to add, it is best to add nothing.
