A week ago, I posted a message to the which can be summarized like this.

"Dealing with dates and times in Perl sucks. There's lots of good modules out there, but no two have a similar API, none is feature complete, and none of them play nice together. Oh, and there's no decent time zone code either. Let's fix it."

Since then, there's been a lot of discussion (318 messages in 8 days (eek, about 43% or so by me!)) and some code written, even!

So if this is a topic that interests you, please join the list. While I am playing dictator, there's lots of things to discuss, particularly module APIs, and lots of date/time things I don't know about or understand properly, so there will be lots of work for interested parties.

If you want to have a look at the code, check out the perl-date-time project on SourceForge. There is code in the CVS.

Is their a reason you decided that dates needed to be cloned() instead of using overloaded '=' to deep copy?
