Discrepancies in the number of replies

Maybe it's out there in the docs, and -by Murphy's law- possibly even in an evident location. But I just can't find it: it occurs to me that there are discrepancies in the indication of the number of replies to a given node when it appears in the section it belongs to and and in the frontpage respectively. Any clue?

Do you have any examples? I must say I hardly ever look at the numbers, but it could be because of caching (if that happens at all), or just plain timing - i.e. new messages being posted between the time you request the frontpage and the request of the section page or vice-versa. Well, for example in this moment I see as the first post in The Monastery Gates this article: DBI and PP not behaving..., from Seekers of Perl Wisdom and I see the indication "4 replies" and "3 replies" in the respective "locations". UPDATE: I'm not offended, but most definitely I'm puzzled to see posts like this getting downvoted, especially I can't see why, taking into account that I'm answering to a specific cmt. A reply/explanation would have been welcome...	[reply]

That's interesting, because I see "2 replies" for both locations. (and the node itself has 3 replies in 2 threads) update: AFAIK, the "# of replies" usually refers to the number of direct replies (i.e. threads) update 2: changing my user settings to "show count of all replies" does indeed show the incorrect count on the monastery gates. Thank you for the explanation. OTOH this behaviour is only moderately annoying. But from other replies I got (see Re^4: Discrepancies in the number of replies and following) it seems it had already been noticed...	[reply]

Check your user settings. Most likely some of the replies are below your chosen depth. holli, /regexed monk/	[reply]

I don't think so, for it's 1000. Also, I was referring to the indication in the header: I find it -quite often- to differ when I see the node in the section it belongs to and in the Monastry Gates respectively, assuming it has been frontpaged, of course...
