If your gonna write a program to do it then maybe ;). He asked a programming/design related question that wasn't specific to a programming langauge (though he could have just assumed that it was going to be written in perl). I think this might be on the border of being OT, but it certainly isn't the first instance of someone seeking advice when searching for a solution to a problem. The OP didn't ask how to do it in JAVA, or something completely unrelated to computers so I don't see this as OT. I think that the community here is generally open to working on solutions even if they aren't 100% perl related, and some of us even enjoy that, its not as if we are being inundated by non-perl questions in which case the guidlines might end up being stricter. Either way you are free to simply not reply to any questions.

I certainly hope that perlmonks remains a place that individuals can come to their peers for assistance and direction even when not 100% perl related.
