Along all the other monastery tags, word for certain terms that need their exact connotation clarified or may otherwise be ambiguous or unclear without further reffernce.

The first has better acronym support and a cleaner interface (google uses it).

It's probably been suggested before but I thought I'd cast my vote for it.

Re: How about jargon://

While we're at it, how about a jargon:// tag?

    xoxo,
    Andy

    %_=split/;/,".;;n;u;e;ot;t;her;c; ". # Andy Lester
    'Perl ;@; a;a;j;m;er;y;t;p;n;d;s;o;'. # http://petdance.com
    "hack";print map delete$_{$_},split//,q< andy@petdance.com >

if linking to www.dictionary.com, the jargon file is included. E.g. flarp.
Re: Monastery tags (need a new xml ticker)

New tags are great but a maintenence problem for XML clients, because each [tag://] in the XML stream has to be parsed and turned into a link. Perhaps a new xml ticker could be made to identify valid linktypes and the url they need to invoke.

Re: Monastery tag -- dict://word

I've been feeling really lazy lately, so I'd like a [response://node-id] tag that would insert a response to the specified node.

For example, [response://85239] would have been composed this response for me, saving me at least 30 seconds of valuable time.

a [freshmeat://app] tag would be nice too :)

Re: Monastery tag (how about merlyn://keyword)?

How about a [merlyn://] tag that links to a search on his column archive? A tag such as [merlyn://cookies] would return this link: cookies to this url:
    http://www.stonehenge.com/perl/googlecolumnsearch?search_for=cookies

I rather the dict:// tag automatically correct spelling for me, as opposed to giving a link to a definition...

as in, [dict://speling] would be replaced with the first word giving from the list of possible words from the dict site (chosen on your homepage?) and returns it, unbeknownst to anyone else.

UPDATE: After having a goodnights sleep, and seeing how many requests there where for new tags... I figured we should make it easy for vroom to implement, so why not just make a [DWIM://blarg] ala Acme::DWIM ;)

    .mincus
    telnet://bbs.mincus.com

that should be [spell://] and if it works in the preview, as it should, then you can correct it if it picks the wrong thing.

also, btw, dict.org includes jargon file entries.

I'd use http://dict.org. Several databases including Jargon, clean simple and independent to boot.
