As those of you who are already subscribed to The Perl Journal will be aware, the January 2003 issue is now available for download. Of note however, is that The Perl Journal is making available to subscribers a discount on Jon Orwant's "Computer Science and Perl Programming". This book is the first volume of the "Best of The Perl Journal" and includes 70 articles from the earlier (print) years of The Perl Journal, covering computer science, advanced programming techniques and the underlying mechanics of Perl.

This book normally sells for the recommended retail price of $39.95 (plus shipping and handling) - Subscribers of The Perl Journal can now purchase this book for $24.95 (plus $5.00 for shipping and handling). This discount is more than The Perl Journal subscription in itself and offers greater value to an already excellent subscription - Furthermore, a portion of the sale is also contributed back to The Perl Journal.

Unfortunately this offer is only available to North American subscribers of The Perl Journal - So it appears that I am out of luck ... Oh well, next time, maybe ...

    Thanks! Ordered both just now!

As to your case, it is probably the shipping cost. You could pay it yourself, then again it would probably be cheaper to order it your way ;-) I bought a rare book off a guy your way once. Man the shipping was expensive!

Just as a follow-up, those Perl devotees in Australia, New Zealand and south-east Asia searching for this title can find it at Everything Linux - It was added to their product range on the 3rd of January and it appears they have stock on-hand. The purchase price for this product is AUD $74.10 inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
