in reply to JAPH

in my opinion, how you sign JAPH gives you the rank, not whether you do it or not. Someone who has

print "Just Another Perl Hacker";

after his or her name is obviously a novice and someone with something so elaborate that all you can distinguish are a few asterisks, well.... are perl saints.

    Yes... a little observed secret that I'll let the monks in on...

    The canonical JAPH is:

    print "Just another Perl hacker,";
    Notice 25 characters, including the comma, and with the first and third words capitalized.

    Accept no imitations.

    -- Randal L. Schwartz, Perl hacker

      But...but...the ; is unnecessary since it's a one-liner! :-)
        The word "canonical" here is being used as its "prototypical" sense. In that sense, the semicolon is essential, by decree. {grin}
