As a hobby, I record the number of votes received by the best nodes of the month and year at Re: Selected best nodes - nothing recent, why? (Node Reputation Ranges Over the Years). As you can see from that node, while there was a significant drop around 2009, the number of votes for best nodes of the month/year has been stable for the past year. That said, the pre-2009 glory days, when all twenty best nodes of the year were 100+ and a really good node garnered over 200 votes, appear to be over. I speculate without proof that we lost quite a few users (e.g. brian d foy) after the "hacked catastrophe of 2009" -- which may partly explain the drop in votes received by the best nodes of the month/year around that time. Changes to the Perl monks levels/voting may also have had an impact. See also:
