Some Parse::RecDescent Tutorials

Parse::RecDescent Tutorial is a little something I found this morning while groking Parse::RecDescent for use in a module I'm writing. Written by Jeffrey Goff back on 13 June '01, seems easier to digest in a first sitting than the wonderful if highly prolix Parse::RecDescent pod.

Using Parse::RecDescent by Craig Smith via "Der Zweiter Perl Workshop" is another good resource I just started reading.

Even Big Blue got into the act with Parsing with Perl modules by Teodor Zlatanov.

For a current project, I have made it my goal to learn as much as possible about Parse::RecDescent. To that end, I have gathered as many resources as I could find. Many are new; some replace old/broken links in the above node. Still, the list is certainly not exhaustive. Perhaps others will find them as useful as I have.

Just for the sake of completness there is also An introduction to Recursive Descent Parsing which Abigail presented at YAPC::Europe 2001.

However, the slides aren't quite as good without Abigail to fill in the blanks.

So sad that none of the articles explain how to derive and invalid left-recursive grammar into an (efficient) valid one.

I found it to be the main problem (for me) with Parse::RecDescent...

This issue is discussed, a little, in "The man(1) of descent" in issue 12 of The Perl Journal, in the section "Left-recurse ye not!".

Eliminating Left Recursion in Parse::RecDescent discusses a mechanical approach. It doesnt cover the P::RD specific solutions though.

Most of these resources are listed in Parse::RecDescent::FAQ, which seems to be overlooked by even the most copious resource list in this thread! Curious.

Actually, the second link under the CPAN heading is the Parse::RecDescent::FAQ. :-)

One of the main reasons I felt compelled to compile this resource list is because at least one of the links in the Parse::RecDescent::FAQ is broken, namely, the very first resource listed: Craig's Parse::Recdescent Area. In tracking this down (now here: Using Parse::RecDescent), I also found the new (and in other cases updated) resources listed above.
