"You sit in a train and 75% of the people on the train are staring at a small hand-held device, but they are not on PerlMonks and they are not coding Perl."

I doubt that even .01% of people on trains using smartphones (or such devices) are doing any coding. If you are trying to make a comparison between people accessing facebook and people accessing perlmonks then you're not going to prove anything.

I am, or least sometimes I'm testing or posting notes to PM.

But I need a laptop to make it work.

But if I'm coding for Android, I can use my phone.

What does this have to do with Perlmonks and social networks? None of these points make any sense in context of your arguments? On my daily commute (train) I post and browse using the default Android browser with zero issues. Unless you tell people what doesn't work for you, how can you expect anyone to understand what you're trying to improve?

But if I'm coding for Android, I can use my phone.

How to build Perl on Android 4.4, YMMV, or better yet, ssh to a device running multiple perls (via perlbrew) should you wish to test something.

Perlmonks ...But I need a laptop to make it work.

I don't believe you, I post to perlmonks using a flip-phone/featurephone ... its almost as slow as using a tablet without keyboard (ok its a little slower)
