RedJeep has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello friends. ActiveState has EOL'd PPM. I have a server with v5.28. Apparently killed off at 5.26. I am trying to install IMage::Magick I looked at the docs like PPM Index and ImageMagick.org but can't figure out how to install this module. I will also need to install other modules. My environment is ActiveState across multiple servers, so I would rather avoid switching over to StrawBerry. Any ideas?

I just checked syphilis's PPM listing (http://www.sisyphusion.tk/ppmindex.html) and it looks like he has Image::Magick (and Image::Magick_) PPM modules. And if I'm reading it correctly, it looks like he has versions built for ActiveState Perl 5.28. I'd say try installing from that PPM repository and if it works, drop syphilis a thank you note.

I recently finished moving from AS to Strawberry across multiple (single figures) servers. It was surprisingly untraumatic. Because it was an old version of AS, I ran into the problem of the current directory not being available by default, described here. The only other issue I had was the expected one of the "shebang" line needing to change in some cases. I had far more trouble installing modules on AS using CPAN directly, as I wrote in Installing Template::Toolkit on Windows.

Thanks for the comments. The issue does not appear to be a bug, but that ActiveState has actually dropped PPM from their 5.28 build. As I understand it, if any of us download 5.26 or 5.28 (the latest builds) from ActiveState and do a new install then PPM is no longer available. So how do we install modules? I was wondering what any of you are doing for module install with the latest ActiveState Perl (ActivePerl) builds. I imagine there must be a simple answer to this as (because of my ignorance) it seems like a really big deal. :-) I feel that I must be missing something...
That almost worked. Ran cpan install Image::Magick but failed on dmake. Looks like dmake is not included in ActiveState ActivePerl 5.26 and 5.28. Either ActiveState totally kluged up Perl or they failed to communicate effectively how to install modules or I just don't know how to follow the good advice provided here along with an inability to read docs. Looks like I am going to attempt switch to Strawberry Perl. Thanks again for the help everyone!
