I currently run Perl v5.28 on both Windows 10 Home, and WSL Ubuntu 20.
Should i ever learn Perl v6 or Corinna/v7 ??
I am a total fanboy of all that Perl can do, and right now, i want to buck trendy crap and whitespace indents, and be a rebel against Python since almost everything is trending that way. I want to become a competent Linux SysAdmin, and certainly, knowing Perl, GNU, bash, and C, are key strategies of that.
A month ago, i figured out how (using a Perl script) to rsync/mirror all of CPAN on my home computer! :)
YAY! and even right now i am updating my repo! haha
My current learning and work/research:
I am working on writing a Pathfinder RPG 1st Edition Character/Monster Creator/Builder app, in Perl,
And learning as i go. I just included a CPAN module in my work, Games::Dice !
Hi! i am rather new to this website. I am 48, male, physically disabled, and i live in NE Kansas.
But i have worked in and salivated over I.T. my whole life. I do not have my A+ certification for physical PC system/parts repair, but i am very very competent and very confident AND EXPERIENCED of/in my abilities in that field. I cut my teeth on my first ever computer, a Commodore 64, in 1985. CAN THAT RUN Perl, too?? I bet someone figured that out already! :)
I have recently turned my learning over to software development.
I wrote some guy on the PM mailing list a few years ago and he said Perl Monks or Perl Mongers (not sure which) was all but dead in my locality of Kansas City - what happened to everyone in the local Perlmongers group?
Anyhow, i was fascinated with Perl since 1998, but am only now getting around to actively learning it
Relevant books I own copies of:
Learning Perl, Perl in a Nutshell, Perl hacks, Programming Perl, and an O'Reilly quick-reference to Perl v5.
(and digital copies of a lot of others but i cannot recall titles and i dont have them open right now)
