CPAN Ratings...

by Bod (Parson)
on May 28, 2023 at 23:41 UTC ( [id://11152445]=perlquestion: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Bod has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've had a bug reported for Business::Stripe::WebCheckout regarding CPAN Ratings.

This report points out that "CPAN Ratings" no longer exists but it is in my documentation. I didn't explicitly put that in the documentation so it must have been in template or perhaps copied from some other documentation.

What was CPAN Ratings?
Why isn't it there anymore?
Do I need to do anything about it?

      Found it!

The offending reference was added when I used Module::Starter to help with building the module...

I shall do as you suggest after building and uploading AI::Embedding without the reference in POD.

      UPDATE!
I note that the issue has already been reported the author of Module::Starter

That ought to be a nice, simple PR - ideal for a first timer to tackle. Any takers?

    What was CPAN Ratings?

It was a very useful site where a user could rate (out of 5) and more importantly review CPAN modules.

    Why isn't it there anymore?

An excellent question. There was never any concrete reason given for its demise AFAICR. The only rationale was in the NOC post which essentially suggests that the limited resources they have could be better used on other things than keep CPAN Ratings going. :-(

Do I need to do anything about it?

Just remove the link from the POD of your dist. You could always replace it with this one.
