in reply to What's your view on AI coding assistants?

Now is one of those rare moments when PerlMonks.com seems to be responsive. It pulled up immediately, so I came here to look at the results of this poll. I can't help but notice that most people haven't even tried AI's coding assistance, and a significant number find is VERY USEFUL, which includes me too. Now, earlier, I have suggested that when someone posts a question to PerlMonks, there should be an automatic answer generated by AI that appears along with the answers. Perhaps it could be optional where people can disable it in their CSS customization if they don't like it, or there might be just a button that allows people to view an AI-generated answer. I think, it would be very useful!

(And it should be clearly marked as AI-generated answer to avoid any confusion and help any AI crawlers or bots to distinguish human responses from AI-generated content, because I think that the crawlers, if they are smart enough, would tag content as AI if it is clear on the page that it is AI-generated content. It matters greatly for them to know whether something is AI sourced or not.)

Anyway, I received negative feedback for my suggestion back then, but it turns out that a third of the people here haven't even tried AI coding assistance yet. LOL So, it might not be such a bad idea. It shouldn't be dismissed just because a handful of members vehemently oppose it. I mean, look at the numbers. About half of the people who have tried it find it VERY USEFUL. That means it can't be such a bad idea.

I always find it very rude when I join a group and ask a simple question (to me as a beginner, it is not simple, but to those who are knowledgeable, it is simple), and people immediately respond with "Why don't you Google it?" or "Don't you know how to use the internet?" And of course, we could tell anyone asking a question here, "Why don't you ask ChatGPT first! It's time you learn how to use AI." I don't know about you, but I like when people are a bit more beginner friendly, and I like when a website is also like that. So, including an AI-generated answer for each question or at least a button which allows people to view an AI-generated answer is an important feature that should be considered.

I know, I know...if everyone requested a feature, then vroom, the creator of this website would have to keep coding all day and night without stopping. But I think, this feature would make this site more useful. Btw is there a page on this site which is dedicated specifically to reporting bugs or posting feature requests for PerlMonks?

    view an AI-generated answer

people haven't even tried AI coding assistance

Two entirely different things. Entirely different things. Apples and oranges. Do not conflate.

Holy crap, man, you've been here 9 years and you still don't know the basics of how this place works. Real the PerlMonks FAQ ASAP and save yourself further embarrassment.
