This version is a little more robust - it works in both cases - with or without setting "$/".

It can also handle multiple URL's.

use warnings;

$/="</html>";

for(<DATA>){
  print"$1\n"  while  /a href="(.*)"/g;
}

            <td scope="row">SUBSIDIARIES OF THE REGISTRANT</td>
