Commifying has been done more [http://www.olafalders.com/2015/09/04/stop-writing-your-own-commify-functions/|thoroughly]. This handles long numbers correctly but doesn't work with input like "1234th". But it's designed to work with numbers so no surprise it won't handle a string as input. OTOH I would not expect a module called Util::Number to handle string data such as "1234th".

"pretty_number" is quite a vague name that doesn't give any clues about what it actually does.
