in thread Feature: Auto hide. Change: show node vote counts to all, not just logged in users.

How many SOPWs have -10 (total, not 10 downvotes) reps? None now. It almost never happens and when it does, it’s generally deserved. You can raise contrary examples if you know any. When I see them it’s requests for free code or job posting. Neither is of any value or should be shown or spidered.

I don’t recall replying to reaped nodes. They aren’t instantly reaped you know and when I’m here, I’m a compulsive Recent Threads refresher with a post template and 90wpm hands.

There is only one monk posting nodes that land below -10 reputation as a rule. Worst nodes of the day, the week, and the month are all owned by this monk. Once the sabbatical period catches up, it will be all or close to all of worst nodes of the year, again. There is not a single other current monk this would affect. Even historically it only would have meant anything to a small handful of monks, including the never quite known as watercrackers despite my attempts to popularize it and logicus; neither always deserved it, in my estimation, but the ethos here is real and needs to be respected. In contrast, a site that expects only answers and never code-free, citation-free, pontification, and bragging like StackOverflow would chew and spit.

The monk in question posts advice that is sometimes dangerous—and could get a junior dev fired, disciplined, put on a PIP—but has the unfortunate habit of being half-right a lot of the time. Never containing direct answers. Just handwaving, buggy nonsense, C // comments in Perl code, mistaken assertions, advice that was questionable in 1998 and just awful today, constant assertions about wrong node/logout, frequent rehashing of settled issues that are only personal, straight up lies about voting habits, blah, blah, blah, and despite polite requests and helpful advice, this is never corrected. It’s been years. It’s a waste of everyone’s time to call it out over and over and it starts fights between other monks. If the nodes simply disappeared with the votes they are already getting–

It would be a benefit to everyone and might be the wake-up call that is finally answered. The ringing bothers all of us.
