And, please, if you are “stuck on a project that you have to do for your Linux class,” ask your instructor. Your instructor may or may not answer your question directly, but now (s)he will be aware that you have that question! Speaking as a sometimes-instructor, “we can’t read minds.” If you are stuck, someone else will be also. The instructor might then know to weave that explanation or additional clarification into the next classroom or lab session. (Don’t wait until the day before the project is due, as so many people unfortunately do.) Communication between instructor and student needs to flow freely in both directions.
