The war against Perl, by random wikipedia editors

by Anonymous Monk
on Aug 24, 2018 at 02:13 UTC ( #1220976=perlmeditation: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

For many years Perl was part of the Model–view–controller page at wikipedia. At some point the Catalyst and Maypole links were quietly deleted and now everything except Perl gets a nod. This is not an isolated incident.

Of course anyone can edit wikipedia: Let's put Perl back on the map!

    Good catch but why didn’t you do it—at least for the page linked—already?

      Knowing stuff was deleted doesnt mean you know the subject?

    I often have trouble correcting things on Wikipedia. I looked at this and tried to edit but right now my IP is blocked by Wikipedia. I investigated who did it and the person responsible is identifiable only as a white lesbian canadian with health issues who is therefore unable to be contacted to challenge her decision. Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me.

    Update: I also blame Google of course - as usual for searches, on this topic, the first few are not the best and the results quickly descend into irrelevance and hype. One example just assumes you have to code in C++. Preferring C++ to Perl is a bit like preferring Assembler to Visual Basic.

      Perl Martyr!++

      I humbly request the Gods to introduce a special Monk's rank: the Martyr! Which must be below Saint because one first becomes a Martyr and then declared Saint.

      Apropos wikipedia, personal opinion: although I often quote historical or scientific facts from there, I avoid political content because wikipedia is, to me, a political weapon of mass effect. massively effective. Typical instance of getting the trust of the people and then doing manipulation. But seeing that happening to Computing subjects one can ponder: All is Politics.
