Writing Daemons

I've been searching for some articles about writing Daemons and haven't been too sucessful. I was wondering if people have some URLS to articles about writing them. Doesn't necessarily have to be about Perl Daemons just the theory and same sample code. Please let me know if anyone has any articles out there. Thanks

perlipc is a good place to start. And if you know C the source of Vixie Cron can be rather illuminating as well, as would Apache.

Did you check SysAdmin Magzine or Dr. Dobbs'?

There's a nice tutorial at WebReference.

And Network Programming With Perl by Lincoln Stein is a good book on the subject.

Stevens's "Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment" is the reference to have. It's pricy and worth every nickel I posted a skeleton perl rendering of the daemon formula at Re: Daemons???.

And...just in case you missed it: perldoc -q daemon has the basic recipe for writing a daemon.

The Perl Cookbook has good info on this, and so does the Advanced Perl book. However, you will usually be better off starting with something on CPAN like Net::Daemon or Net::Server or Net::ServerGeneric.
