I've always wondered. What to English people call chips if they call fries chips?

I mean, chips (Lays, Ruffles, etc) are called chips because their in the shape of a chip. Fries are in the shape of shreds or sticks or planks.

We call them crisps because they're crispy, at least by potato standards.	[reply]

What's funny is in the states, we do refer to fries as "chips" if it's with fish. That is, we don't order fish and fries -- we order fish and chips. Otherwise we never refer to fries as chips. Heh.	[reply]
