How can I help?

Monks,

I have always been a believer of 'learning by doing'. Since I would like to continue learning, and so far I use Perl only for fun (perlgolf), I need a real project. I have just been writing little convenience scripts so far, but now would like to contribute something back to the community. So my question is, how do I get involved in making Perl better? Is there a wishlist for modules somewhere? I searched here and at CPAN, but couldn't find anything. Also, it might be easier/more beneficial to help out on a project that's already underway. Is there a 'help wanted' site, then? My training is scientific (astronomy), if that matters.

Humbly,
Pepik

There is a module list (currently in beta form) on http://rt.cpan.org. You could also look for abandonware (software or module), and take over. As for help wanted, try http://sourceforge.net.

And CPANPLUS itself has plenty of things that need doing.

find the source! Or you could check out jobs.perl.com (or something along those lines) as some of them require volunteers

... there is a whole bunch of TODO items for developing perl itself, and this will make your perl knowledge deeper.
If you're not afraid of high-volume perl developers list, you can subscribe to perl5-porters@perl.org (do it by visiting www.perl.com)
