For those wondering what the 'mu' reference is. Not that there would be many of us who haven't read the entire jargon file from 0 to Z ;)

Incidentally, has anyone ever made it through Hofstadter's G.E.B. ? I have a bookmark about 1/3 the way through :)

Ash OS durbatulk, ash OS gimbatul,
Ash OS thrakatulk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul!
    Uzg-Microsoft-ishi amal fauthut burguuli.

      vroom says Kool-Aid, I agree
vroom says the space ship will be here to get us soon, and to keep farming the crops for the Great Harvest
      I agree

      Kool-Aid Kool-Aid Kool-Aid Kool-Aid Kool-Aid Kool-Aid

Follow vroom, for unto vroom becomes Kool-Aid.

work it harder make it better do it faster makes us stronger more than ever hour after our work is never over.
Daft Punk meets a Kool-Aid Aum Shinrikyo cult!! You weird me out man!!

I finished G.E.B. but its cover is more battered than most of my books, due to the extra time it spend in my bag because of the bits where I couldn't absorb more than a few pages at a time.

Thanks for the explanation on the meaning of mu! I'm surprised that I haven't heard this one before. I would image that politicians in our country would have adopted this word with open arms! ;-)

I'm very fond of the Discordian text on Mu,

        = Zarathud's Enlightnment =

Before he became a hermit, Zarathud was a young Priest, and took great delight in making fools of his opponents in front of his followers.

One day Zarathud took his students to a pleasant pasture and there he confronted The Sacred Chao while She was contentedly grazing.

"Tell me, you dumb beast." demanded the Priest in his commanding voice, "why don't you do something worthwhile. What is your Purpose in Life, anyway?"

Munching the tasty grass, The Sacred Chao replied "MU".

Upon hearing this, absolutely nobody was enlightened. Primarily because nobody could understand Chinese.

I'm bookmarked about 1/3 of the way through also, and I haven't looked for it for some time now. It just takes some effort. And besides, I need last year's acid to get further and further from my system before I have room for any more of GEB. ;)
Yes, I read GEB - it was amazing, I couldn't put it down! I thoroughly recommend it to all hacker types. The only bit I didn't grok was the complicated maths bits, I couldn't get my head around those. (a bad admission for a programmer I suppose).
A self-respecting geek might not have read the jargon file from cover to cover? Sheesh. Even my teeny-bopper daughter could tell you what mu is! :-) I printed out the HTML Jargon File and it lived in the bathroom for several months.

What if I or we were born in a pre-computer era?
I believe we do what we do to support our social life. is about socialization not about work or Self-Actualization
I think if some poeple code or WORK on their computers because they enjoy it then it's a social habit! not a work habit! Even if they get paid for it.
That is why some people are happy at work and others are not, because their work became a social habit!
Self-Actualization won't be as needed If you live alone and no one else recognize your sucesss!
Therefore I must say that We (human kind) are all about socialization!

"All of the above. I'm a mess."

Perl is a mess and that's good because the problem space is also a mess. -- Larry Wall

    Does this make me
    A) a programming language,
    B) a problematic space ship to be used by vroom,
    C) just another messed up poster (JAMUP)

It's said owners begin to look like their dogs, maybe it's also true that programmers being to resemble their languages?

Oh-no! My langauges are C++, Perl and PHP!

No wait... programmers do not resemble their langauges... they begin to think in their langauges! My brain has threading and XML support, does yours?

Well this topic is very curious since I started to work my grater necessity is to learn to handle the necessities of the clients and work with whom never in my life I throw before.

And in personal life learn to say no 'cause sometimes I put the leg (I'm mess).

God help me always to see the other face of the coin. And prevent me from accusing of betrayal those who don't think just as I do.

where is beer on this list??!! a good Chimay is all I work and live for ;)

vroom says beer makes us weak and lazy. Poisons the soul.

We need Koolaid. So that the aliens may give us new bodies. Bodies that may allow us to code without using our hands and feet. We can code with our thoughts

      (/me drinks koolaid)

      my $_ = " //------\\ ||| o o ||| ||| c ||| |||\----/||| ||| || ||| /----------\ /----\/-----\ |censoredcen| \----/\-----/ | | | | | / \| / ***** \ / censored \ | censored | | censored | | / \ | | / \ |";

Okay: My coding skills are still weak.

But I realize that all good monks must eventually post some real code.

So: Here goes; I have been working with the tutorial node.

    #!perl -w use strict; print "Do you like deep perlish questions at the voting booth?\n"; my $input = <>; chomp $input; if ($input eq 'y') { while ( <DATA> ) { chomp; my @SelfActualization = split /\|/; print join(' ', @SelfActualization), "\n"; } }else{ if ($input eq 'n'){ print "Non of the above for me. MU."; } } __END__ You have no hangups.|You love Psychiatrists.|You have strong Ego.| High Self esteem.|Isn't life just great.

The dogs bark; but the caravan rolls on.

Where's the gin ( or beer or <insert favorite alcoholic beverage here> ) option? I would claim that my most pressing need is for more gin!

My vote would be different today than yesterday. what if everyone could vote on this once a day - would the totals be different from these? And would they be different each day? What if everyone needed a social life on the same day, and needed self-esteem on the same day, etc.

The only reason i know who Maslow is, is because I had to take a bloody "Human Relations" class in my last year of cs. As if we grads didnt know how to interact with these so called "humans". I was insulting. Other than the Kicking option i could go for some Physical/Biological goodness right now...mmmmm.....breakfast
