I agree with cjf and sinister. The way I read the advice you got was something like watching a parent scream at a child for trying to cross the street without looking both ways even when there weren't any cars on the road at all. You totally know that the screaming is unwarranted on the face of things, but you also totally know that that scream will be embedded in the psyche of that child, enabling it to avoid danger, later when its needed.

Abigail-II's point was one of these. And from your reaction, my guess is that the lesson you learned, while perhaps uncomfortable will not be soon forgetten. Which I think was the POINT.
