Figuring out the Everything Engine isn't something that can be done on a weekend, not unless you have the Matrix-style downloadable version of this knowledge, which isn't likely since that's still in beta.

An alternative is to use the Slash system, which is less complicated, and better documented. There's even a book on the subject from O'Reilly.

Hey now, I wrote much of the documentation for *both* systems. Figuring either out will take more than a weekend. (I'm not sure Slash is any less complicated, especially considering that the number of people who really understand the moderation system can be enumerated on a hand that's missing fingers...)

Start with 'dem nodes' in The Everything Bible, and you'll get a pretty good idea of how things all fit together.

I'm not ignorant of that fact, no, and I really appreciate the effort put in to trying to explain the Everything Engine to mere mortals, such as the Everything Bible.

However, at first glance, the Engine is so abstract that it seems less like something programmed by humans and more like something that was beamed in from outer space, not unlike the blueprints for a teleporter from Contact. There are so many moving parts, that just figuring out the gestalt of the whole thing can take some time. For me, I had to install it a few times since I kept breaking it.

Don't get me wrong, I really like it, but if you're on a deadline, it's probably going to drive you mad.
